My favorite poem so far is "Gee, You're So Beautiful That It's Starting to Rain" by Richard Brautigan. The poem is playful, charming, and humorous. Also, it has an interesting format (a stanza acts as a "report card").
I found another poem by Richard Brautigan titled "The Double-Bed Dream Gallows" that I copied into my Moleskine. I especially like Brautigan's reference to the "leading women's magazine." He incorporates social commentary into a short poem.
The Double-Bed Dream Gallows
Driving through
hot brushy country
the late autumn,
I saw a hawk
crucified on a
barbed-wire fence.
I guess as a kind
of advertisement
to other hawks,
saying from the pages
of a leading women’s
magazine,
“She’s beautiful,
but burn all the maps
to your body.
I’m not here
of my own choosing.”
